Yes, it will work but it will be slow. All USB 2.0 devices will work with USB 1.1 ports but they will only operate at USB 1.1 speeds. If you have a spare PCI slot in your PC, I'd recommend getting either a USB 2.0 card or a Firewire card. You can get these for well under $50. Transferring you songs will be much faster with either one of those.

If you have an old computer what OS are your running? It better by XP or 2000. If it is, just buy a PCI firewire card. They are about the same price as the Apple USB cable.

so if i bought a windows iPod, it will work with my laptop, that has USB1.1, until i get a firewire PCMCIA card?

Thats fantastic news, pretty much made my day, as im a netMD user, my warantee for it ran out 20 days ago, and yesterday, it begins to pack in! so im now looking at a 10g iPod, as i dont think i will ever need 20 or 40 gigs, heck, that would be bigger than the hdd on my laptop!

Thanks for the top advice

It's really not THAT bad. An office-mate of mine got an iPod from his aunt who bought a VW Beetle. He doesn't have his own computer but uses the one at work, which only has USB1.

Unless you're spoiled by the firewire (like I am) USB1.1 transfers are still nice. And even if you are spoiled, it still works.

Jay_uk, from what I've heard, most PCMCIA firewire cards are not powered. That is, plugging your iPod into one probably won't charge it. Just something to keep in mind.
