View Full Version : how do i install ipod (windows) without install CD?

just picked up a 10G ipod for windows

wouldn't ya know it...CD-ROM drive craps out on me

anybody out there know if there's a way to intall the drivers/ipod system files in WinXP without the CD???

do i have to download anything?

You can get the iPod updater from Apple in the downloads section. If you have a Gen 3 then you can get it here
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120229, then you can d/l iTunes, ephPod, MC9 or some other program to do the syncing duties.

thanks for the reply Southside, but your link doesn't work...maybe they moved that article? can you point me to another link?

and i can just download the updater? i actually tried installing the one labeled 1.3 updater, but it didn't help, the computer didn't recognize the ipod when it was plugged into the USB port.

i thought the install disc had drivers that existed only on the disc.

the download section at apple's site has two files: one called iPod 2.1 updater and one called iPod for Windows 1.3 updater. any idea which one i should try?

1.3 is for second gen iPods only.. you should be installing 2.1 if you have a 3rd gen..
