Different versions of iTrip?

I heard from the guy at my apple store that there are different versions of the iTrip, and that I need an iTrip specifically for my 3G ipod. When I looked at the iTrip box it looked like it should work with my 3G, but I was assured it would not. I'm not sure I buy this, can someone shed some light here? Are there really different model iTrip's for different gen. iPods?

There are really two different versions of the itrip. One for 1st and 2nd gen ipods, and one for the new 3rd gen. Why? Because the older models have the firewire plug right next to the headphone jack. That is the main design reason you need one for the new ipods. There are also smaller differences but that is the big one.
