it's just that i was under the impression that you could get 2 hours battery life on the 30gb when playing videos, but i only got like 25 mins.

so im thinking maybe my videos are on a much higher bittrate than they shud be.

can anyone give me any help and advice?

I encoded using 3GPConvert at 512 or 768 kbps and get two plus hours of video play time.

maybe because you use the backlight

yes, that's a good question. all those tipps like "don't use the backlight, no EQ..." best would be not to use the iPod at all. I don't understand ppl backing up Apple by saying such a bull####. Let's face it: Apple still hasn't delivered an mp3 player with a satisfying battery life (14-20 hours with NO backlight, NO EQ etc. is not realistic). 6-7 hours are realistic and very disappointing!
