I am sorry this is not going to help much, but when I was in search for car mounts I found a website (I think it might have been a non-ipod site) that did an article on all of the options for installing an ipod in a mini....I believe they also had links to products made just for the process.

Are there any other mounts that are better looking?

Not a cup holder, but ProClip makes one of the nicest and most solid holders around. You can look at the mini cooper one here. (http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboardmounts/853245.aspx)

Have a look at the ICE forum on mini2.com (http://www.mini2.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=10) - great site for mini owners anyway, plus lots of threads about iPod's.

I have the dension ice-link, will try and find a pic of it and post that soon...
