Hi all,

This be my first post! Just got my iPod last week. I finally bit the bullet and invested!
Last night i ran a cheap- ### phono cable from the back of my car stereo aux - in connectors (red and white ones!) did a nice job of running it down the back of my dash into my converted ashtray. Its all goin well and it works fine.

My problem is that i'm finding it hard to find the right volume level... I have the ipod @ about 80% to avoid distortion but i have to turn my car stereo up to about 80% to get a decent volume level. Thats far too loud, if i decide to switch back to the radio and forget to turn the volume down i get blown out of it!!

Questions: Should i turn on an EQ on the iPod or leave that to the car stereo?

Is it my crappy cable? should i invest in a gold plated cable to increase volume / quality levels?? will it really make any difference??

before you all start giving out, i did use the search function but there is simply too much to read in this forum! Nothing i read hit the nail on the head.

Hey there MunkyHed,

The cable won't make a difference to sound level, just sound quality.

What headunit are you running in you car??

Its a Sony cdx m8800. Its a really good head unit.

Never mind folks.. thanks for all your great help *rolleyes*
I found a setting that works perfectly, i have to turn on the 'XPLODE' function on my head unit, i keep my ipod at about 70% and i get a perfect sound.

Many car stereos have low input volumes. The Belkin Auto Kit has an level control on it that allows you to boost the signal coming from the iPod to match that of the CD and radio signals.
