I have a 2001 Ford Focus, and the factory head unit has CD changer control. I was wondering if there is any way to trick the head into thinking that the ipod is a cd changer thats cheaper than the ICE Link? I don't care about being able to control the ipod with the head unit's controls, I just want to be able to hook my ipod up to my car stereo with a direct line without buying a new head unit. Thanks.

I have a 2002 Ford Focus. According to the manual, the single-radio CD is model 4600n and is compatible with external CD changer (although the manual doesn't explain how to control it).

I would like to connect an iPod directly. What hardware do I need?
- I think the SIK imp cable is ideal for this install (12V power, dock connector and mini jack)
- Will I find RCA or mini plugs in the back of the radio or just a harness?
- I downloaded the blitz catalog and located an interface but I'm not sure what the part does. I GUESS it branches out of the harness to give me RCA or min jacks, but it doesn't say so anywhere.

Jay, where and how did you end up installing the iPod in the Focus?

Thanks, Eric

I ended up buying the SiK imp cable, Monster miniplug to RCA cable, and an auxillary input connector from PIE. http://www.pie.net/sec12sb1l.htm

You just plug the PIE converter into a port on the back of your stereo, plug the monster cable RCA end into that, and then plug the other end into the SiK. Then push the CD button on your radio. It will say 1-01 (disc 1 track 01), on the display and just play whatever is coming through your ipod. It's a very good setup with exceptional sound quality. As far as mounting goes, I got a case with a generic belt clip connector on the back, and then just got a little thing with a sticky patch on the back from radioshack to slide the belt clip circle onto that cost like 3 dollars. I attached that to my ashtray, and the ipod hangs nicely. with the ashtray pulled out so that the power adapter hides behind the ipod, you can easily change songs on the ipod without even taking your hand off the shifterwithout much movement from the shifter.

Does anyone have any info on the '04 Focus SVT Audiophile package? The system is an in dash 6 disc changer and I want to hook my iPod up to it. Does anyone know of a good place that sells the specific AUX input adaptor at a reasonable price?

Thanks

I'm not sure the in-dash 6 disc changer has an AUX input. The 2000-2003 single disc player can accept an AUX input instead of the external disc changer. But I know they changed the radios for 2004 so you may be lucky.

Many thanks. It doesn't look good at the moment, but they say an adaptor is coming.

With the ipod connected to the AUX, will the CD-player still be working as usual?
Anyone knows if all 6000CD have an input for a cd-changer?

The cd player will work fine. You use the CD button on the deck to switch between the CD player and CD changer input.

I am looking to do the same thing. So do you use the CD button as a toggle from in dash CD player to iPod?

I also have the 2004 SVT Focus with Audiophile package. I've been looking for a place to get the aux input adapter but I can't find the one for 2004 Focus. I can only find the one for 2000-2003.

Blitz Safe (http://www.blitzsafe.com/) sell the aux adapter for the 2004 Focus (http://www.blitzsafe.com/blitz_catalog/blitz_aux/blitz_aux_list/blitz_ford/blitz_ford.html) but it says 'Coming Soon' It doesn't say when it's going to be available.

Anyone have a solution to hook up the iPod for the 2004 Focus? Thanx

I have just ordered the PIE converter and the SiK to hook up my ipod to my 2002 Focus. It appears that I need to get a special, "DIN Tool" to remove the stereo (http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalFordFocus.htm). In other people's experience, is this true or can it be done with a screwdriver or something?

Thanks for your help.

I just ordered one for my 2001 Mustang. I too have the IN DASH 6 CD changer. One condition though....your IN DASH 6 CD changer NEEDS to have an aux CD input for external CD changer. Mine does so this application works for me. I don't know if the Focus has aux input for external cd changer....
