I currently have a Sony mex-hd1 (10 gig hard drive / cd player) and I would like to replace it with a HU that has ipod control. The only two that I am interested in is the alpine cda-9857 or the pioneer deh-p7800mp (more interested in the pioneer if the ipod controls are up to par). Basically my question is how do the ipod controls compare between the two as far as speed and ease of use compare I have searched on this forum and can

i am very interested in this also.

but i did some research:
features n sound quality wise (a simple crutchfield comparison) they are pretty equal BUT alpine has slightly better sound quality
pioneer has a colored display which is nice, but eh?

please post any takes on the comparison of the 2! its appreciated!

I've got a CDA-9856 & 3G iPod and it has been nothing but great. The 9857 has "direct search" that lets you jump ahead through large libraries which seems like it would be a nice feature. Sound quality on my 9856 is GREAT, I'm sure its as good or better on the 9857.

I've never even looked at the Panasonic so I'm not much help there. Good luck!

its pioneer, but an easily made mistake on FleurDesign's part.

so far, i THINK, (correct me if i'm wrong) the alpine displays 4 lines of song titles while the pioneer only displays 2. but seriously if you think about it. i fill up my ipod with many songs, but i only listen to a good set. i always make playlists. so you can just listen to a playlist on random. you will never be able to mimic the ipod controls, n if you want to be able to scroll through your playlists quickly WHILE driving... you're best to get an AUX wire. i am aware that the pioneer has that option (it wires to the back, AUX costs 4-6 at radio shack). I'm not sure about the alpine.

the ipod adapter:
alpine: $30
pioneer: $50

they both are about the same price on eBay which is around 265-285 shipped. install it yourself, shouldn't be that hard...

I tried out the Pioneer and the Alpine recently and have decided to go for the Alpine. The Alpine just works better and faster than the Pioneer, so I'm getting it installed next week with a Kenwood amp and sub. I'll let you knoiw how it goes when I get it in my car.
