okay, so my alpine 9856 wont skip to the next song wit hmy ipod.
but i went to car toys, and they looked at it. and they put in osmeone elses ipod (same, ipod video) and it worked fine. the guy said theres something on the apple website that you need to install for it to work properly
CAN SOEMONE LINK ME!?!?

Just go to apple.com and search for ipod updater, thats what you are looking for.
What version was the one that was working?

It says in the owners manual what version you need. I'll look when I go to lunch. I just happen to have my manual in my glove box.

goldcoaster probably meant what FIRMWARE version aka iPod updater was on the iPod that worked.
You can check your firmware version by going to the Settings > About screen on your iPod.

according to the manual you must have:
3rd Generation - 2.3
4th Generation - 3.0.2
Photo - 1.0
Mini - 1.3
Nano - 1.0
Doesn't specify for 5th Generation but mine works just fine - 1.1.1
Also specifies that you cannot use any version prior to 22nd Feb 2005.

wow, I guess anything is possible. or maybe there is something in the new update that screwed things up. I guess I won't be updating.
Anyone else with the new update have problems?

just to fill you guys in..
apparently when the ipod is on 'repeat' alpine will keep repeating the song. so it turned it off repeat, and it works now :DDDDD

RAAAADDDD! I just spent the last three hours trying to figure out why I couldn't access playlists on my new Alpine CDA-9856 with my 4th generation iPod. Once I turned off repeat and shuffle in the iPod settings itself, everyting worked like a charm. Thanks cashmoney ;-)
