Hey all, get this, my cousin just gave me his "new" 30G 5th Gen 'pod. He says he wants the 60G and is just giving me this one. My problem is this....I have a 3rd or 4th Gen 'pod. Not sure which (it's the one with the buttons under the screen). Anyway, how do I get rid of his music and pictures? And how can I just import my iTunes? I love my music and really hate his...LOL. I have the current updater in my PC so that is good to go. I just want my current iTunes stuff on this new one. All help is welcome. Thanx!!!

If all your music is on iTunes and u've been doing autosync, this is a snap. Just insert the new iPod and iTune should come back and ask something like, do u want to replace the content of the iPod with the new library, say YES.

otherwise use the updater to restore your ipod...it will bring it back to the factory settings and erase everything

"FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided"
What u know, finally a message that means EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS.
OK, I will confirm it for you. in 5th Gen iPods, YOU CANNOT USE FIREWIRE, USE USB INSTEAD. U can use usb 1.1 if u don't have usb 2.0, it just takes longer. U wanna change? CANNOT. If u know a trick, we wanna know too.

To easily get the photos off the ipod, open up the iPod in My Computer, go into the Photos folder, and delete the file "photo database". Then go into the Thumbs folder, and delete its contents.

Your old iPod would be a 3rd generation iPod. As for this just plug it in by USB and just press restore in the iPod updater. It would start it out fresh and new.
Wow, a free iPod. Sounds great, I wished someone gave me theirs.
