I have an '01 Jetta w/monsoon and am looking for the best way to integrate my 3G iPod. looking for the solution that will most completely transfer iPod functionality to my car stereo [so not really looking for USA Spec or any other solutions with silly playlist rules]. I've heard a lot about installing an Alpine head unit and using their iPod adapter which is supposed to be great, but supposedly you can't instead that unit into the Jetta. anybody have any suggestions or experience?

thanks so much!

First off, go third party. My b/f has the ipod kit from VW and I honestly want to rip it out and burn it. I don't often hate things, but this just flat out blows.

What you might want to do is just go into a retailer (i.e Circuit city, Best buy, compusa, etc etc etc....) and talk to them about install options.

Also, google for some VW forums, there are plenty and I'm sure there are some that have similar threads.

According to Crutchfield, most Alpine units will fit your car (I chose 4" tall head unit assuming your car is Monsoon). This includes the 9857 model, which seems to be the best interface out there. But they do say they are a "Modified Fit", which means you might want to consider professional installation.

I would also recomend the Golf IV/Jetta IV forum at VWVortex, whith many examples of stereo installations.

I just integrated mine. Here is the link to the thread. I have a '01 Jetta with Monsoon. First thing is to upgrade the Headunit. The cable they offer for the Stock head unit is just as expensive, so I went with the new setup, crutchfield had a sweet deal at the time. The hardest part was to integrate it into the armrest. All in all it took 2 hours or so. but that was with a lot of figuring things out. I think if I did it now it would only take about an hour.
Let me know how it goes.

I just looked in Crutchfield and they still have the same deal. Stereo and Adapter for $200 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-08pd9IJS7Od/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=133C7203

The new headunit totally makes the Monsoon amp and speaker sound awesome. Its like a new car.
