sound quality is good with my brother's E2C, but he doesn't have the foam tips anymore so they don't fit my ear and they leave something to be desired. do you get used to wearing it wrapped around the ear (the wire)?
and should i settle for e3c or e4c? is there a big difference?
from a reputable place, i can get e3c for 139 and e4c for 179.
i have sennheiser cans that are uncomfortable (and cheap), sennheiser px100 over the ear, which are good but lacking, and ipod buds. looking for something that's gonna give my eardrums a good run for their money
using an ipod vid 60gb black
also would i benefit from ripping at better quality than -V2 lame ? or is this adequate

wearing the wire wrapped around the ear a la shure style is probably the most comfortable way to wear an iem. it also reduces microphonics.
i'm suprised to hear that you think the shure e2 sound better than the px100. usually headphones and cans are a better bang for your buck. you're paying for isolation and extreme portability with iems.
anyways, i have the shure e3 and am satisfied but i read that e4 trump them. spend the extra money and upgrade.
about the encoding, encode it to something higher and if you can hear a difference, change. if you can't, stick with what you got

I think UE Super_fi 5Pro are better than Shure E4c for listning today music. But if you want to choose between shure models then i would recomand E4c. Because E4c shows more details in mids n highs and soundstage is bigger than E3c. Bass is also better on E4c.

I agree with Snoop. If you are considering the E4, I suggest you seriously consider the Ultimate Ears Superfi.5Pro. They are the cheapest dual driver earphones in the market and the sound difference between the 5Pro and the E4 is astounding. Well, it would be like comparing a two speaker system versus a four speaker system. :)
Anyway, in my experience I wouldn't bother with the E4 and would spend the extra $10 and get the 5Pro. If your budget only allows you to stay closer to $100, I suggest you also consider the Westone UM1. They are like $30 cheaper than the E3 and sound WAY better.
All of these are over the ear wire and sound isolating. The premium price paid for sound isolation and portability makes it worth your money. :D

I recently had a chance to compare the E3 and E4....and could not tell enough of a difference that made me want to trade up. Now - stepping up to Westone UM2 or Shure E5 is a whole another story!

The 5Pro is just different than the Shure E4c. Not better. If the OP likes the sound signature of the shure line then get the E4c...

Wrong..
There's a huge difference between one driver and two.. With single-driver phones there is only one speaker producing both bass & treble simultaneously, while with a dual-driver setup there is a high frequency driver managing the treble while another driver is specificly aimed at reproducing the lower frequencies accurately... (in the case of the UE 5 pros there are two precision balanced armatures.) The difference is phenomenal.
Funny this debate has come up as a co-worker of mine just sold his E4c's after hearing my 5pros, (all the while complaining at me for not showing him the light sooner) and is now eagerly awaiting a package from UE... he is yet another one of my convertees :)

And what happens if I don't like that much bass? Or prefer more treble. The Etymotic ER4p uses only one driver. Yet it has one of the most detailed sounds you can get with out going into customs. The point is that they're in the same league (ER4p, 5Pro, E4c). The sound signature will appeal to some people more than some. As I said before if the OP likes the sound signature of the Shure line, he should stick with it. Another option would be to order all 3 IEMs and return the two that he doesn't like.
