Please Help!

Last night I was listening to my ipod and I went to change the song and it wouldn't play and it just kept skipping through the songs without playing them and then it shut off so I went to turn it back on and this little icon appeared, its like a little ipod with X's for eyes with an exclamation beside it and I kept trying to restart it and it wouldnt work and then finally it started working again but today it's messed up again, it keeps making weird beeping noises and skips songs. I tried plugging it into the computer but it wouldn't respond, I had to disconnect and reconnect again for it to work.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Please help! :o

there could be alot of different things wrong...you need to try the 5R's located here (v)
if none of those work you have to take it to an apple store or get it replaced

my mini has had problems skipping over purchased music in which case i delete the tracks from the ipod then simply reload them back on and it usually does the trick...
