So, after reading tons of reviews I decided to get the UE Super.fi 5 Pro. Here's some background about my endless-like search...

I like prog rock, classic rock, reggae, britpop. I have the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and love them, but they are somewhat big and I wanted something smaller. The Senns' sound are top notch and during the year they are with me, I have discovered new sounds in my music. The only problem with them is the headbang, yes, they crack after some use, but I put some tape around the cracks and problem solved...at least for a while. I live outside the US, otherwise I would have mailed them under the 2 year warranty.

Okay then, back to the UE 5. After the HD 280, I wanted some IEMs decent enough not to sound like crap compared to the Senns. As I started to read I focused on the Shure E2C, but early on I noticed a lot of complaints about the highs and mids. Then I checked the E3C but the complaints where similar. Other competitors where Etys ER-6i and the UE Super.fi 3. I've had a hard time trying to decide which to get and how much dough to spend.

I was about to pick the Etys but the cables seemed too delicate, even though they have high marks for sound quality and comfort. Considering the crack of my HD 280, I chose not to pick the Etys.

The Super.fi 3 where probably my first and best option (value for $$$), but I read some reviews complaning about weak bass. I also liked the replaceable cords, but somehow I couldn't decide on these.

Finally I discovered the Super.Fi 5 and their excellent reviews, but at first was deterred by the price. After a few days reading tons more of reviews, I said "what the heck!" and finally I ordered them yesterday. In the long run, I thick they will pay off nicely.

Man, I can't wait to try them on! I hope to discover new sounds in my musis with these babies. Time will tell, can't wait.

Did anyone experience something similar when evaluating their new IEMs?

Congrats on your purchase! I got my pair of Super.fi 5 pros a couple months ago and also considered Shure E3C. Once you find the right silicone fit you will definately not regret buying these.
