I think he's referring to a problem with his equipment, not his ear. I assume you have an iPod. Did you try to use different earbuds to see if something is wrong with your iPod's jack? If other headphones work with the iPod and you have the stock Apple buds, fill out the form on the website for a replacement.

Make sure you have the headphones plugged in all the way (especially if you have a case on your iPod).
