I go out skateboarding alot and bring my ipod with me almost everytime. I need a good pair of headphones that play loud, have good bass, and won't crackle. I'm willing to spend around the $40 or $50 range. Any ideas? I heard the Sennheiser MX500 and MX400 are good and cheap, and I can find them for dirt cheap on eBay.

it probably isn't the best idea to skateboard with a hard drive based mp3 player
but thats not what this forum is about; its just a suggestion.

i assume because you go skateboarding, you need to hear your surroundings so you don't get hit by a car. so an iem or oem is out of the question.

go with the mx400, i read they sound the same as the 500

Don't worry about me hearing surroundings, but I don't want a pair of in-ear earphones (those earplug ones). Any ideas of other brands also? Something that won't crackle and blow out easily that's earphones?

sennheiser is a very respectable headphone company.

since you're boardin', you probably don't want a clip on? so the koss ksc75 is out. what i love about that heapdhone is that you get 80% of a grado sr60 for 1/6 the price.

Go with the Koss. Its only $10-20. Rather cheap for what they do

No I don't want a clip, just some plain earphones like the MX400's. I bought some nice Sony ones a year ago or so, and they blew out easily. The Sennheiser ones won't blow out? Alot of my tunes have high bass in them.

again, if you're blowing out headphones, you're playing them too loud

You're going to get tinnitus if you can blow out those headphones. Your hearing isn't going to last much longer at that rate.

No, like some of the headphones don't even play loud and I can't hear the music when I skate, so I turn it up and it's still not loud enough, and yet they blow out. Maybe it's something to do with my iTunes? I did that "Sound Check" stuff and it changed all the volumes to -9dB and lower, so I can barely hear the music.

sound check is no good, makes your music seem dull and lifeless. take it off

Doing that will cause you to lose your hearing. Turning the volume up to compensate for loud surroundings is hell on your ears. You do need something with some sort of sound isolation. But then thats not a good idea, as you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Apple's In-Ear buds are good. They can isolate enough sound, but not so much that you can't hear a car coming at you. They sound pretty good. It's just a matter of getting a good fit.

Stay away from Sony headphones.

Yeah, I'm at the skatepark alot, so don't worry about cars, that'll be my problem. I don't like the Apple ear-buds. Is there any good in-ear earphones that are under $60 or so that have a good brand name and have good bass?

What about the Shure series? Or are they quite expensive?

The v-moda Remix Ms are pretty good for an Apple style bud. They look and feel like the Apple buds but have a much better sound.

Don't go with the Shure/Etymotic line. Too much isolation for places were you need to hear your surroundings

I think I'll order some of the V-Moda Remix M's off the company's site. The reviews on the site said they all have good bass and volume. Thanks Tom.
