My guess for the 6G is January 2007.

However, the rumours that a new higher capacity 5G is very promising. I will buy a 5G 80 GB to replace my 60 GB Photo (which only has 5 GB free). That is assuming the price is the same as the current 60 GB, and I hope it is the same size as the 60 GB so that I don't have to wait for new cases.

i was watching cnbc europe and apple's earnings are expected to come out today, and they've warned that they might not be as high as estimated, hence they announced when they are going to roll out the new ipod (6G) so as to keep investors interested, and they announced the release will be at their next presentation in august! alot sonner than most people have guessed, and thats all most people did do... guess. Analysts have been predicting the release date for sept october for a while now, so they've been the most accurate.

I get the Apple Developer newsletter. So I get about an email a week telling me when the next Apple event is.

The important ones are usually webcasted.

I don't know if you fellas over at Taiwan celebrate Christmas/Holidays or have some sort of crazed buying period during the last few months of the year like we do. The thing is, Apple, and other companies as well, love to capitalize during this time. It's just not sensible to release a new product after everyone has emptied most, if not all, of their money before the new year. Expect a new iPod, any new iPod, even it's just another lame revision of the U2 iPod before the end of the year.

If a company releases a product after October, it's as a last resort. Like Vista. I thought that Apple would be too smart to release a new product right after the largest selling season of the year when I first heard this a few weeks ago.

I thought the WWDC was supposed to be Mac-related only, and not about iPods. There should be an Intel Powermac next month

WWDC probably will be only about Macs. But they've convened special events in the past.

It just doesn't make sense for them to wait on the new iPod. Even capacity bumps of the current model won't sell as well. People bought up the new iPod like crazy last christmas, but if there isn't something new, there's about 30 million people who already have a 5G and don't need another one. A 6G iPod? that's something new and would be one of the hottest sellers of the season if they introduced it.

Just doesn't make sense to wait until january. Apple released the mini at a Macworld event, but this was before iPods had taken off. With the sales figures from last year, it would really make no sense to skip out on the biggest buying season of the year. Additionally, if the 6G is going to be expensive (as many first run new model iPods have been) the christmas season is the best time to start selling them.

I'm still holding out for before the end of the year. It's been a looooong time since anything has changed.

Just for some clarification - I'm from California...I've started living in Taiwan this past Sunday. :rolleyes: Anyway...

I do realize they love to make money, and yes, money comes the most during the Christmastime. Trust me - I have lots of "fellas" from Apple who are telling me the same thing (and no...not retail :p) that a new iPod is coming in Q1 of 2007. Plus, Apple doesn't always release according to Christmas...look at the Shuffle...January.

I never said that Apple won't release a new iPod before Christmas...I'm just saying a 6G or a supposed video won't come out until 2007. Sure, there's going to be a new nano with new colors and larger capacity coming out, but that's not what most people are waiting for. Good things happen to those who wait...
