I just bought a set of super.fi 5 EBs on ebay for $128 shipped. It seemed like this was a good deal so I bought rather impulsively. Now it seems I may have made a mistake.

My musical tastes vary from roots to 80's alternative to some current stuff. What I don't listen to much is techno and hip-hop which seems to be the audience these earphones are aimed at.

Do you think there is there any chance I'll be happy with these? The Pro model will run me at least 50% ($65) more at the lowest price I could find. I would go ahead and try them but if the likelihood is I will have to resell them I think that would really hurt the value for such a "personal" product.

Would you not even open them and wait for a deal on the Pros or go ahead and take a shot?

What about the super.fi 3s?

These will replace a pair of Shure E2Cs which now have a bad cable.

Thanks-

Tom

BTW I had an iLounge membership in the past but for the life of me can't remember my user name and that email addy is a thing of the past. So I really not a first poster.

i would not open them. and yes, you are right that iems lose a lot of value when they are opened and used.

spend the extra money on the super.fi 5 pros. they are well worth the money.

also, how old are your e2c? all shure iems come with a two year warranty

Thanks for the reply... That is the way I am leaning.

The Shures are at least 2 years old and finding the paperwork would be unlikely. The replaceable cable is one thing I really like about the UEs.

I prefer the EB to the pro. I have both.

The SuperFi 3s are pants.

Jackonico-

Is your preference for the EB dependent on a specific type of music? The good reviews I have read for the EB all reference bass heavy styles. I'm all over the map from occasional classical and jazz to roots rock to current alternative. I got the impression the E Bass might be too much for me but I'm willing to listen.

The "EB" in the name stands for "extended bass". So, yeah: resell them and do what others have suggested. Sounds like yu'll never be happy with them Unless your musical tastes change, that is

I've decided to give the Westone UM-1s a try. Ordered them from earphonesolutions sister site for $99 shipped after asking for a price match at $104. Shipped a couple of hours after order.

I'm going to sell the EBs at a slight loss (going to start at $120 shipped) if anyone is interested. Will take it to the classified forum.

Next time I'll do a little more research and not be so quick to hit the Buy-It-Now button.

You just did. You should've also taken the Altec Lansing inMotion iM716 IEM's into consideration. They seem to match your description of what kind of music you listen to.

$200 MSRP, but for only $80 at Amazon.com. Great value.

Even if the EB's are capable of producing the extended bass, if the signal doesn't exist, its not gonna reproduce what isn't there.

Why not try 'em out first instead of putting yourself out $200?

The bass isn't that strong, I think they're the best phones out there at the moment.
