My 4gig one say 3.7gig so I'm guessing the 2gig will be around 1.8.

Mathematically, it should be around 1.86Gb, less a tiny amount for the iPod OS.
Contrary to what seems popular belief, this has to do with the different in how the hardware manufacturers define a Gb as opposed to how software defines it. The space lost to formatting and/or the iPod operating system is very minimal by comparison.
A Gb in hardware terms is 1,000,000,000 bytes. A Gb in software terms is 1,073,741,800 bytes. Therefore, a 2Gb (hardware) Nano is 2,000,000,000 bytes, which when divided by 1,073.741,800 results in 1.86 Gb.

Exactly, Jesse. To me this is false advertising on the hardware manu. side. A Gig should be a Gig not rounded down to make capacity seem more - it's the same for computer hard-drives isn't it?
Also the same was monitors 17" was really around 15.5"-16" of actual working screen.
