Go to "User CP:Edit Options" and scroll down to the bottom right-hand corner. You'll see something like this, except without an avatar:

I've noticed that others have a custom title set under their names. How does one go about doing that? Is there a post minimum, do I have to give someone money, kill somebody? How is it done?
EDIT: Nevermind...

how do you post a link to a url based within an image, but without a border? for example, i want to have my sig link to a site, but i would like to turn off the orange border around it. how do i do it?
The orange border only appears with certain browsers. It isn't visible with Safari on my iBook but is with Camino.

it doesn't seem that way on my system.
i am running firefox 1.0, and i see sigs that are linked to pages both with and without the orange border.

an example of a linked sig without a border would be Calculus's

stinkiedmb:
You have this code:
{url=http://www.pitt.edu/~jas2377/ipod.html}{IMG=http://www.pitt.edu/~jas2377/images/sig.png}
Calculus has this code:
{Url=http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/Calculus/}{img}http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/8944/calculusborder.JPG{/img}{/url}
(I changed all the "[" and "]" to "{" and "}" for display purposes)
Looks like the main difference is in your IMG tag. Change yours to look like Calc's and that should remove the border.

1, I have used the search function on my own name, requesting results by post to get to or create a link to a specific post within a thread. Is this the easiest way to identify a specific post for referral?
2. In my signature below, the last link is to a specific post, not to a thread as are all the others. When I click on the link in my signature it takes me to the beginning of the thread, not to the specific post. When I use that link in my favorites, it takes me to the specific post.
How do I get the link in my sig to go to the specific post, which is
http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=108484#post108484
I have double checked that the properties of my favorite's link and the link below are identical.
Edit, hmmm, just tried it again, and one out of three times it went to the specific post. A sporadic problem? and, still would like an easier way of identifying exact address of a specific post to link to
If you hover your cursor over the "Quote" button it should show you the ID of the thread - for this post it is 395934.
If you use the following replacing the "12345#post12345" with "395934#post395934" it will direct you to your post.

hovering over quote gives me only "Reply w/ Quote" but if I click on quote, it show the post number in the address line. Suspect it is a mac vs pc thing. I can live with that. Thanks.
However, the link address is in my book recommendations is correct for the specific post and most of the time a click takes me to the thread beginning, not to the specific post. Only sometimes does it takes me to the specific post.

robert, when I clicked on the last link in your post it also took me to the very first post in that thread but I waited a few seconds, then I was taken to your post. The post your linking to is not the first post that comes up when I click on the 'Link'. I have to wait for it to show also. I tried this on Foxfire.
On MSN, it eventually took me directly to your post with a small delay but didn't stop at the first post in that thread first. It may be doing that depending on the browser your using.

Must be my Browser or Google pop up blocker -- although telling google bar to allow pop ups doesn't make a difference. Using IE 6.0. I get the post instead of the thread about 3 out of 15 tries. Waiting after I get the thread does not bring up the post like it does for you, honeybee.
Oh, well, if that is the biggest problem I have today, it will have been a great one. Thanks, anyway. And, I did learn how to id posts easier.

Ahh, and duh. It was my XP Service Pac 2 pop up blocker. I had to also say yes to XP to permit pop ups on ipodlounge page.

I have edited a couple of long posts recently, done a character count to find that the post was, say in one case, 300 characters under the max and then when submitting, getting a message that the post exceeded the max character limit. So far I have been able to work around this, but what gives?
Thanks

mini_me2,
you need to type it in after you host it like this:
{img} p l a c e l i n k h e r e {/img}
repalce the {} with [] and no spaces in the link. I had to do that so that you could see it.

i tried to post a new thread on the free music section but got a message about "only consolidated members are allowed to post" what is that???????
If you mean this message then you have to reach a certain number of posts before you can post URL's

Ok, simple one this (well, only if you know it ;) ) You just go into 'User CP', then click on 'My Profile'. Then all you need to do is to scroll down till you get to 'Custom User Text'. Just type in whatever text you would like to be displayed! :)

HOW DO I UNSUBSCRIBE FROM A THREAD?
Select User CP and you will find a list of all subscribed threads on the first page of the CP.

Coming from a non-noob, this is sort of a weird question, but how do you post pictures? I click the "IMG" button on the reply page, and put in the URL and it just posts a link. Is that the wrong way to do it, or am I just dumb? If it's the latter, my feeling won't be hurt, I promise.
You have to adjust the image tags to [ img=URL][ /img]
remove spaces

Is there a way without a resize manually to make the image a tumbnail? Maybe a length="300", width="300" command like html?
Or do I have to resort to making my own thumbnails?

^ Thank you so very much for making me have to scroll sideways.
And is it possible to upload it to a photobucket account or similar and just put a link instead of THAT?

All you have to do with imageshack is type .th.jpg instead of just .jpg

I've looked and looked in the control panel under profile/avatar/options, but could not find any place for the signature/custom text. Do I have to have a certain number of posts before this option is available?

^^ You'll need 3 more posts. :)
All new members option to have signatures is restricted until they have 10 posts after 7 days. Some other forum functions are also restricted for the same period. Sorry if this seems unfair but the spammers will try all sorts of tricks.

Is there a spoiler tag like some forums have?
