I purchased some Panasonic RP-HJE50 earphones about 6 months ago for my 3rd gen iPod and they have been great- very comfortable and excellent sound quality.

But, last week, I have found that the left ear bud has stopped working. I use them every day in college and leave them dangling from my shirt during the day, and do not wind them around the iPod for storage, I just leave them on my desk at home.

Is this a fault that is common with the behind the neck style earphones? The left bud has the shorter cord, so the stress causes cable damage?

I brought them from eBay and have e-mailed the seller (from Hong Kong) for a replacement, but if he doesn't send me replacements, should I e-mail Panasonic and ask them for replacements? Would it matter that they were from Hong Kong and I am in the UK?

If not, I am considering purchasing the Creative EP-630 (

look up panasonic's warranty; if any, and email them

I would, but since they were from Hong Kong, the packaging is all written in Chinese, so I cannot understand what it says!

I probably am going to get the CX300 (and hope they last longer than the Panasonics).

But, I am just a bit concerned about the cable quality on them. Any opinions on this?

I ordered the Sennheiser CX300 (black) from Amazon.

Did you check phones w/o the extension cord? The extension cord on my HJE70 broke at the plug and one channel went out.

Yes, I tried it without the extension cord too, and in my iMac just to check that it isn't the iPod or extension cord.

Just waiting for the despatch of my CX300s.

They arrived today.

Without any burn in, they sound great. Much more bass than my HJE50s, but nicely controlled. And a sensible amount of cable length too!

I don't think I'm going to bother burning these in (HJE50s needed some to control the treble), but these are fine!

Wires do seem a bit thinner, so I am a little cautious though.

The Panasonic ear tips fit on them, but I've found that I need to use the Sennheiser Medium tips, as opposed to small on the Panasonics.
