Register my iPod and/or buy a TAP?

I received my WinPod (Gen. 2 touchWheel) about a week ago and I had a few questions on some things:

1. Do I NEED to register my iPod on the Apple website? From my understanding, this is the only way they can repair my iPod if something goes wrong. Hence, shouldn't I only register it when and if the iPod breaks?

2. Should I buy a TAP? I heard that the battery is the big problem and since a replacement battery is now available online, is the TAP really necessary and worth it?

My advice is to get TAP, because: it gives you piece of mind and you can abuse the hell out of it and get a brand new gen 3 ipod when the time comes.

I'd register if I were you. It's not like they send you emails or anything....
