Probably another basic question but I can not seem to listen to the track I want.

I navigate to a track and it seems to just play in shuffle mode.

I would like to play albums form start to fininsh the way I would a CD.

Do I need to set up playlists?

I used iTunes to load my CDs into my laptop and then my iod.

First, make sure shuffle is off. Do this in the QuickMenu, hold the Menu button (instead of pressing and letting it go). There are three options, you toggle them with the >> or << or || buttons. One of them toggles shuffle, but I dont remember which one.

To play an album you have two options, both of them start by looking at the albums folder:

1) go into its folder, and when the first song is lit, press (not hold) the central select button. That should start on the first song, and play till the end. If you have the third song selected, it will play from the third song until the end.

2) this time, dont go into the folder, just highlight it, then hold (not press) the central select button, and the playlist options will popup. If you have something playing there will already be a playlist going, and you can insert this album on the end of it, after the current song, or shuffled throughout the playlists. If there is nothing playing, then you can put it in order or shuffled.

Thanks again mnhnhyouh,

I finally managed to listen to a whole album form start to finish in glorious GAPLESS mode.

Does rockbox sound better than the firmwware, it seemed to but it could just be psychological.

Once again, excellant work on this piece of SW.

Once comment that I would make though is that it is still a bit difficult to get to grips with Rockbox. I found the firmware very intuative and straight forward to start using out of the box. It is great that Rockbox can do things that the firmware can not but all I want to do with my ipod is listen to music on the move without having to mess about with settings etc etc. Although this could just be a case not being use to it.

Thanks again for you help on this.

I have yet to see anybody try a blind test of which is better, but I bet the limiting factors are headphones, encoding or the iPod hardware sound quality, and not the difference between Rockbox and iPod firmeare.

If you had Rockbox as the initial firmware on your iPod then switched it would be nearly or as difficult, I think. I only used the iPod firmware on there for 48 hours, and now find Rockbox intuitive. I am used to it :)
