Hi

I am looking to get an accessory to hook my ipod to my home stereo.

I know leads such as these:

http://www.welovemacs.com/nx223.html

will hook up my Ipod up to my home stereo.

However I am wondering if there is a way to hook the pod up to your stereo without draining the battery life of the ipod by plugging it into a home socket? Maybe the accessory mentioned above does this? Im not sure.

Also what are peoples personal opinions on the wireless remote for the ipod?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I use the iPod in the dock with the power cable plugged in and the line out to my integrated amp. Of course, this is if you have a 3g iPod.

Yes i have a 20gb ipod, i believe this is 3g.

But does this method drain battery life from the inbuilt ipod batteries or from the mains electricity?

you see what i want is something that will minimize battery use as much as possible.

It must pull from the mains, it's charging the battery as it's playing. When the battery is full and it is playing, the battery meter does not go down. I've had it playing for hours while it's plugged in and it's always fully charged when I pull it off the dock.

dont order that cable m8, it's just a simple jack-to-phono cable and is a very common cable.
If you live in UK there is no need to order it from America, just go to any hi-fi or electrical store and you can pick one up for less than a fiver.

oi, watch it son, I work at Dixons and we all know our stuff.
Dixons dont sell iPods, we mainly sell cameras and tv's, portable music players arent as important.
Ask for a jack-to-phono, or male-to-female plug.
Or just tell them what you are trying to do and they will help you out.

By the way my conversation with a assistant in Dixons Blackburn:

Me: Do you have any Ipods in stock?

Assistant: Whats one of them?

Me: Its a little portable music player

Assistant: Cant say iv heard of it

*I then walked away laughing hilariously*

Dinna go to dixons, they will try & sell ya a JVC 'minidisc to phono cable' tat for a tenner, similarly leave Currys or PC World alone as they part of the same DSG chain.

Go to maplins (http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?CartID=031128003014259&moduleno=35928&Products=2) or Richer Sounds (http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=206579) & save yerself a couple of quid.

Ask for a 3.5mm headphone jack to stereo RCA phono cable...

Support real electronics suppliers! Not mickey mouse wannabes that look for a quick buck selling purportedly 'professional' audio kit.

err, is Dixons not a 'real' electronic retailer?? Shame it's Britain's leading one. I don't think they'd setup thousands of stores across Britain just to make the 'quick buck'.

they may not have known what the iPod was, but you didnt even know what a phono-to-jack was.

yes but the difference is that they work in an electronics store and so they really should be up to date on new technological advancements.

I am a just a normal citizen who has limited knowledge of electronics.

Sorry for the delay in responding, been away from forums for a bit...

Lol, describing the DSG chain as leading electronics chain is technically true, but making them 'good' at their job because of that fact alone, well, that's the same rationale behind describing Microsoft as our cuddly software friend who knows what's best simply because they are the biggest...

Besides, if Dixons could make a quicker buck selling say vodka, they would be an off-licence so fast it would make your head spin.

to paraphrase - more is less my friend - I stand by my comments re Dixons et al... if it makes you feel more secure I also dislike Comet etc as well.....death by 1000 'extended warranty' papercuts to 'em all...viva la revolution!

Give me 1 good reason why someone should go there...

Price? Nope, if you have any intelligence you WILL find it cheaper, unless a 'home' brand a la Saisho / matsui etc

After sales service? lol 1 word....Mastercare...next!

Staff knowledge? err half hour training on a monday plus whatever is trained out when the job starts...

Staff that work on commission? hmmm I dinna fancy getting punted some end of line unit for full price, just coz some assistant can get a few more quid, I expect advice on what's right for me, not for their targets/wallets.

Convenience? Now we're getting somewhere, people in a rush trying to get round the shops/retail park won't mind paying X amount more, there's the kicker...and that's the philosophy that rankles with me...

you are absolutely right there pal i have to say.

though i did get my ipod from a dixons in manchester for the sole reason i got 12 month interest free credit which made it affordable at ?30 a month. I know i could have found it cheaper and i generally dont shop at places like that for the exact reasons you mentioned.
