...accomodate my iPod with it's iSkin on. In addition, I need one that will swivel, so either I or my passenger can view the display. Since many of the mounts I've seen on sites like everythingipod.com and theistore.com run $25-$30 (and I've already spent money on one holder which proved too small), I'd like to find out in advance if anyone uses such a mount with a skin/cover. TIA.
I sometimes use my cellphone holder with my iskin exo covered ipod. It's an adjustable holder that compresses from the side. It was cheap (less than $15) and shipped from China. Try one of the cellphone accessory places on the net and you'll find stuff like that.

Well, that's what I tried to begin with, but the one I got was not wide enough to accomodate the iPod with the skin, and the swivel as so crappy the whole thing was a waste. Soooo, I'm on the hunt for the perfect mount.

I found a suction cup holder at Radioshack that does the trick nicely. The holder part expands wide enough for me to put the iPod in even when it's in the Showcase case! It should fit with the iSkins nicely. It's a tight fit, but works nicely. just find a nice spot on the windshield. Sadly, it's not on their website (naturally), but I found it in the store for @ $20.00.
There is a small groove at the bottom which accomodates the firewire connector. If I can borrow a dig camera one day, I'll post some pics. It's a really nice solution for me, but there ARE wires...I've got my remote sitting down by the shift lever.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I have a 2001 Accord, which has it's cupholder in front of the center console. This, unfortunately, is not a good location for either seeing or manipulating the iPod, so whatever solution I go with will probably have to use a 'vent clip' type connection or stick/mount on the dash.

Arkon seem to have the best range - I guess your in America where they seem abundant (sadly not here in the UK). Arkon recommend the CM30 - I've emailed them myself to see if it will take it with a case. Another similar model is the CM60, which I'm guessing is a bit bigger.

Actually see this here - they've got the iPod in what appears to be a Speck case held in an Arkon.

You can get an angle mount bracket made by Arkon to attach to the cradle, model CM48
