Autographs on the back

Howdy all. I did see some old posts about getting autographs on the back of iPod, but wanted to resurrect a thread.

So do regular Sharpies work? Covering them with a spray clear coat or clear nail polish?

I'm seeing Rick Wakeman on Tuesday and I want him to sign my iPod. I use a silicone case and I could have him sign that, but my iPod etching is a Yes lyric and I think having a band member's autograph under that would be sweet.

Would using a case *after* autograph make it blur or come off?

I think the consensus was that sharpie rubbed off unless some kind of coating was applied almost immediately after the signature was created.

That said, I write on strips of steel all day long with a sharpie. However, mine is not high polish stainless, it's raw steel.
