tape player keeps ejecting adapter

I was using a cassette adapter that came with a phillips magnavox portable cd player to play my ipod in my work vehicle a chevy cavalier. When I inserted the cassette adapter i had to hit the ff and rew buttons on the stock head unit at the same time to get it to 'play' the adapter, without ejecting it. they switched my vehicle to a chevy malibu and no combo of ff & rew or auto reverse will stop it from ejecting the adapter. any ideas?

just to make sure my cassette adapter wasn't broken I tested it in another car and it worked fine. I also tested the cassette player in the car in question and it works. but still it ejects the cassette adapter no matter what i do?

you knnow, i had the problem with my sony adapter when i put it in our "new" Saturn, but i tried a different cassette adapter--one that came with audible player i got for my wife--and it worked with no problems. i'd try a different cassette adapter

thanks for your reply. i was about to buy a sony cassette adapter and try it before i read your post. i bought the belkin one and it works.
