I have a 3G Clickwheel and by itself it works fine. However I cannot connect it to the computer.
When I connect it, my PC recognises it as an external USB drive however that is all it does.
I cannot access the contents through my computer
I cannot access it through itunes.
I cannot safely remove it
I cannot access it through ipod updater.
I have tried resetting it, connecting it in disk mode, restarting my computer with it conected, using different USB ports, however none of them seem to work. I have cleanly reinstalled windows XP with just itunes, ipod updater and my antivirus and it still makes no difference.
When I manually unlug it it comes up with the message that I need to reformat it, but when I reconnect it it still doesn't recognise it.
While the ipod is connected it crashes my computer and ipod updater.
I figure that if I can get the computer to recognise it I could reformat it, defrag it, virus scan it etc. but I just can't get the computer to recognise it.
The strange thing is the same happened about 6 months ago and I banged my head against a wall trying to fix it and the day I decided to flog it on ebay for parts the computer suddenly recognised it and it has worked fine for 6 months.
Does anybody have any ideas?
