The vloume seeams like I have to set it so high when listening to audible. I download format 3 and have tried format 4 and no difference. Do I have something set up wrong?

I find the sound quality of audible books varies quite a bit from book to book. Have you tried multiple books?
I do always listen to books in format 4, as I do notice quite a bit of difference between that and format 3.
From what I've experienced, it seems like most of the newer stuff is higher quality. I do know that some of the older stuff was originally recorded in Format 1 and then converted to other formats to allow more devices to be able to use it. (Since it was converted from Format 1 and not re-recorded in the other formats, the sound of these files does tend to be quite poor.) I do think that audible does have warnings posted when they have done this.
