Perhaps Apple might change the shell materials from polymer + steel to brushed aluminium (except of course the screen). The click whell can even be metal. The basic dimensions don't have to change from the 1G-5G but the shell will be similar to the PowerBook/MacBook Pro, edges will be sharp (on the 5G the bottom edges of the baseplate are rounded) and the corners will be rounded as on the current model. That would look pretty damn cool IMHO.

I can't see Apple moving away from the white/black plastic and metal look anytime soon...

One of the things people loved (and still love) about the iPod mini was the fact that the case didn't scratch and was really durable. Apple moved away from the metal case when the nano was released... and I don't see them going back. I also can't see them changing the full size iPod as it's such an iconic design.

As long as it doesn't look ugly (matte alum will NOT look ugly), I prefer a PRACTICAL surface, like my beloved blue mini has.

Yea that glossy plastic sure looks cool, but it only stays perfect like that for no more than a week, with OBSESSIVE care taken. Do not tell me that the solution is to buy ___ cleaning product or ___ car wax or AppleSauce, etc.--I am paying for an iPod music player, and if I wanted to buy all those other 3rd-party products, I do not need an iPod for it. :(

Horse puckey. I'm looking at my 4th gen iPod photo which I bought a year ago, which certainly has not had obsessive care taken, save putting it in a hardshell case, and it looks fine.

I don't think they'll make a scratch-resistant ipod because then they'd lose the extra money they make off of selling cases and such.

To maintain the same ridgility, alums have to be built thicker comp to steel. Agree with Tom, I don't see them going back so soon after dumping the mini.

They should come out with a limited Titanium edition though (think the exclusivity!) like the RAZR DG.

I really like the finish on a mini. Much more durable. The matte finish on an ipod would be sweet
