I am behind the times when it comes to ipods. I need to purchase an ipod that is compatible with my new pioneer receiver. The manual states " receiver is compatible with an Ipod, Ipod mini and Ipod photo portable device (third generation or above) however, compatibility may vary depending on the software version of your ipod. This receiver does not support ipod software version prior to ipod update 10.20.2004"

Not sure what ipod to buy? Does third generation or above mean generation 1-3 or 3-5? So sorry I am so out of touch but would appreciate any help! Thanks

It means Gens 3.4 and 5. It won't support the older versions of "software" (firmware?). If it says all this I assume it has an Ipod docking cradle(?). Otherwise I don't get why a receiver has all that info in the manual. So don't get a Nano, and don't get some old beater Ipod off Ebay.
