You can request repair via the Applecare website (bottom of this page: http://www.info.apple.com/usen/ipod/tshoot.html ). They then send a packing box via courier, you pack the iPod up and call the courier to collect it. My Applecare (Europe) repairs have usually taken around a week.

My box arrived on friday but I haven't been home to pack my ipod back up yet! Are the details for phoning the courier eg phone number etc in the box they deliever? I was under the impression you could just post the box back to them....

All the instructions should be in the box. The phone number is the courier's number so they can pick it up and take it to Apple.

and apple is so super duper fast (at least in CA) it is remarkable. I filled out a "repair" form for my apple earbuds because the right one had a rattle and THE VERY NEXT MORNING (about 11 hours later) i had brand new apple ear buds on my doorstep

Talking about AppleCare, what does the UK charge for a replacement battery (just to know) and if there are other companies that will change the battery for you?
