I searched the site and have not seen much about an outdoor speaker solution.

My goal is to use powered outdoor speakers (like the cheesy ones you get with a desktop) that can take some of the elements outdoors.

There is a post from some Hilljack who claimed to have swum with his iPod, although this is both irrelevant and implausible.

I do not want to use a boom box with a line in, and the Tivoli thing (tuner and outdoor speaker) is not my bag.

Despite the fact that there are hundreds of outdoor speakers, they are all non-powered, forcing us (at least me) to buy an amp/receiver. I don't want to do this. Polk audio just came out with a speaker T55A? that is powered, expensive, but not fully outdoor capable, but maybe someone here has pushed the limits. Do the Sony T55 T77 options work well outdoors? Any ideas?

Try to find what wedding djs use. Most of those are powered speakers.

I was even at a wedding recently where the dj ran off of both his powerbook and his iPod. He said sometimes for outdoor stuff, we would just use two powered speakers and the iPod!

The Bose Lifestyle Powered Speakers may be your best bet. I don't usually reccomend Bose, but these are a good durable pair of powered speakers. A friend of mine uses a pair out on his deck all the time, but he brings them in when they are not being used.

I doubt that you will find any fully weather proof powered speakers. It's easy to make the speaker itself weather proof, but the amplification electronics are harder to weatherize. DJ equipment are made to take a beating, but they are not weathertight.
