Hi all, I'm looking for a recommendation for an FM transmitter for my Nano with these following conditions:

1) No cradle. So it connects via a wire. (so a passenger can control the ipod easily)
2) It can also charge the ipod with the car's cigarette lighter.
3) There is some way that I can use it in a house, to use on an FM stereo/radio, without having to use the car.

4) Optional: It would be very nice if I could use a wall power adapter with the FM transmitter when I use it in a house, even if i have to buy the power adapter for the transmitter separately.

I have never seen an FM transmitter that can do both 3 and 4. There are transmitters for both sides, but as far as I know there isn't one for both.

What you want is the Griffin iTrip for Nano: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itripnano/

(1) It connects directly to the Nano, and can be completely wireless. You could control it from the back seat if you wanted to.
(2) It has a usb plug that can be used for charging and syncing. You need a USB mini cord (commonly used with digital cameras).
(3) Because the iTrip is wireless, it can be used anywhere. In the car, in the house, or even outside with a portable radio.

(4) As I said above, a USB mini cord could connect your iPod to any USB power adapter. If you don't currently have one, a good one to look at would be the Griffin's Power Duo. It has a car charger, a plug charger, a regular iPod USB cord and a mini USB cord.

Disclaimer: I have never used the iTrip Nano, so I can not vouch for its effectiveness. I have used both the original iTrip and the new iTrip for dock connector, both of which I am happy with (the dock connector would work for the nano as well, but it would be oversized). Another recommendation is that iLounge gave the iTrip for Nano an A-, making it a highly recommended item: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/griffin-technology-itrip-fm-transmitter-for-ipod-nano-ipod/

Also, shop around for price. The iTrip for Nano retails at $50, but places have it cheaper. Amazon for example has it for $36: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BVCTS4/sr=8-1/qid=1148648895/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-2107703-7811935?%5Fencoding=UTF8

radioshack has a wall adapter with a 12-volt output jack (cigarette lighter) just like what's in cars... you can use it to power whatever FM transmitter you have chosen for your nano.....
