I want to install my 3rd gen 20GB IPOD in to my car. I've been reading through these forums a little, but it does not seem clear to me what the best method is for playing the IPOD through your car stereo.

I have a 6 disc changer in the trunk and a tape deck.

Any suggestions for best audio quality?

You must have no read close enough because there are dozens of posts. Of course to get the best audio quality you need to plug it in through rca. Look on the inputs on your cd changer first. If not, almost every company makes VW adapter that will let you use rca. search the forum for VW installs. I know there are a bunch. I think blitzsafe might make on.

I did a search and came up empty. The search feature of these forums blows. Anyone got a link to a thread with detailed VW install instructions? Thanks.

I've got a 03 WV Passat....and here's what I did.

Goto www.blitzsafe.com and order the specific AUX adapter for your car, (assuming the VW is prewired for a cd changer) most are! cost = $90.00

Goto Best Buy or the Apple store and purchase the Monster RCA to Headphone cable. (This cable is iPod specific, and great quality at that!) cost = $29.00

Take both of these to a car stereo place and have them install if for ya. cost = $45.00

You can also install these yourself, but the VW stereos are tricky to remove without the special keys...but do-able! Also, make sure you hook up the ground wire on the blitzsafe adapter!!!!

I ran the Monster cable under the center console, it exits on the side....the iPod sits in my center cup holder. The cable is also long enough for people in my back seats to control the ipod! When the ipod isn't hookup, the cable rests on the side of the passenger seat (invisible!)

The results are great...I am amazed at the quality. The other options (FM transmitter & cassett) are crap compared to hardwiring to the stereo!

Good luck!

I recently got an iTrip for my 3rd gen Ipod. I have an Audi (very similar to the VW as you may know) and it works great! If you can find a quite station, then the sound quality is very good. Of course it will not be the same as RCA, but for only 35$, you can't beat it. Plus, if you want to be able to use you ipod for more than on car, you home stereo, etc etc this is really you best option. I can bring my ipod with me and listen to it though stereo at work, my wifes or friends cars, what ever.

Before you by an itrip, surf through the radio stations and see if you can find one with no station on it whatsoever. If you do, then you are god to go with itrip.
