I'm going to try to explain the setup that I would like to achieve. I have a 99 Chevy Malibu that I would like to install some sort of mount in near the CD player. I have an aftermarket Pioneer stereo that I have an aux input for my iPod, so no FM transmitters will be needed.

A freind gave me a Griffin Roadtrip....It says on their website that it works with the new video iPods, but I dont think it mounts too well...sometimes the iPod will lose connection. But I won't use this anyways, because with my Specks case on my 60 gig video iPod, you can't even mount it on the Roadtrip. But I love the way it uses the cigarette lighter to mount the iPod cradle, as well as charge it....but I don't need the FM transmitter.

So I'm looking for a cradle that will mount to my dash somehow, or one that mounts in the cigarette lighter. I would like one that is fairly easy to remove the iPod when I am not in my car so it is not stolen.

As car as cables go....I saw a few pictures of a cigarette lighter plug where you plug in the aux cable into the plug, and then a main cable runs to the iPod, which will charge it as well as play the music through it. This is what I would like to get.....if I find a mount that doesn't mount in the cigarette lighter.

I think my main problem is finding something that will mount with my big bulky Speck case.

I've attached a few pictures I've seen of installs that I like. I just need to know what products are used, and which ones I need to get for my 60 gig 5th gen iPod, that will also fit with my big Speck case.

-Thanks!

There is a little sliding out ashtray in my car that would be perfect for mounting a desktop style dock in like some people have...but the damn Speck case I use is too big for the dock...ugh!!!

As far as the wiring....I think that I will get the Belkin AutoKit cable.........

it's 40 bucks and seems like the best way to go! Is there another similar product that is cheaper?

Ok....I just ordered teh Belkin AutoKit cable on ebay for $12 shipped.

I think I am going to go with this ProClip mount for my iPod, because it is the only one I have found so far that will work with the 5G 60Gig iPod with a skin on it.....hopefully I can get it to mount to my dash without having to drill any holes....

Does anyone know of any other mounts? I guess any that are have an adjustable width should work.

here is a picture of my interior. i looked at ProClips mount kits for my car, and one mounts above the CD player near the vents, and the other "console mount" seems to mount on the horizontal surface of the console....like a little above the shifter. it only showed a diagram of the mount and not an actual picture, so im not sure if i would like it.
