Hi,

I recently came across this two cables.
1) iCable which is been sold for iPod. Link from BestBuy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051806268853&skuId=4888866&type=product) .
2) Monster Cable Audio Interconnect cable which is THX certified. Here is link from Circuit city (http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&qp=0376841214115&bookmark=bookmark_0&oid=59420&catoid=-8748) .

The price difference between both is 100%, iCable sells for 29.99 whereas Audio Interconnect sells for 14.99. The only difference which I'm seeing at present is Gold plating on iCable which is not on Monster Audio Interconnect cable.

To be honest with you, I dont think there's any difference between them two. I personally own the iCable, which I bougth when I first got my iPod. Recently I went to Radio Shack and bought me a similar cable for approximately $7.
Guess what? Both of them give the same sound quality through my stereo system, which I have in the living room. I dont know about the other cable, but I wish I had gone to Radio Shack first.
I dont have a trained ear to tell if there's a significant difference between the cables, but they sound the same to me.

You are really not going to notice any difference whatsoever using gold plated ends or not, mainly because the iPod is connecting through a mini-headphone jack. This is not exactly the ideal hookup for premium sound quality, but who isn't willing to sacrifice a little quality for the convenience. Apple just needs to implement bluetooth so that you can hook up optical in to your stereo and have full digital transmission, plus you have no wires which is always cool.
