I'm facing a problem with my Ipod which fortunately I am able to repeat but I don't understand why it happens. I hope someone can explain it.
I have the following equipment:
4G 20GB Ipod Photo/Color
Rubber Sleeve (I think it's Belkin, not sure)
Roadtrip FM Transmitter (see review at ilounge)
Newer Tech 120-12v AC/DC converter
I've been using the Ipod in its sleeve for 6 months now, never facing a problem. When in my car, I connect the Roadtrip which plugs in cigarrete lighter of the car and in the headphone jack of the Ipod to transmit to the radio.
Last week I opened for the first time the 120-12v converter (which came with the Roadtrip) to try it at home. The converter plugs into an 120v AC outlet and allows to connect the roadtrip as if you were in the car in order to hear the music thru an FM receiver.
After making the connection at home with the whole setup, I noticed a strange behavior of the clickwheel. It was jumpy - very difficult to set the volume or scroll thru menus. First time it happened. When using the car cigarrete outlet it always works perfectly. Except for the clickwheel issue, the Ipod played fine.
I checked the voltage on the converter and (without any load) it reported 11.9v. I checked again on my 2 cars (without adapter) and the problem didn't repeat there.
After testing a lot, I noticed that the problem only happens when the converter is used AND rubber sleeve is on the Ipod. If I remove the sleeve, the clickwheel behaves fine even when using the converter (after lock-unlock to correct the problem).
I can't understand (but I'm not an electronics engineer) why the Sleeve may be affecting the clickwheel behavior when using the converter and not a real car cigarrete lighter.
The sleeve leaves the clickwheel open (as well as the top and bottom of the ipod), it doesn
