Do you have to actually reset it or are you saying when you turn it on you get the Apple logo?

If it's just that you get the Apple logo when you turn it on then that is because after not using the iPod for a day or so the iPod goes into a deep sleep mode to conserve battery power. It's very normal.

It's the poor little thing going into a sulk, because you aren't using it enough... :D Glad it wasn't a real problem for you!

Is it alright if my 60g 5g video goes into deep sleep in less than 24 hours? It is strange, but when I wake mine the next day (worked fine at 10:30pm after softball and than turned it on again the next morning before noon) it wakes with the Apple logo and returns to where I left off at last use. I wonder if the date change has anything to do with it?

When it wakes with the Apple logo does that mean it was in deep sleep?
