I've heard that you can't get an iTrip from the Griffin site to ship to the UK.

So............where can I get an iTrip from (at the cheapest price naturally).

I've heard of a few people in the UK that have already got there iTrip from griffin and I live in the UK and have just got an email saying they will ship my order (to the UK) in the next 3 days. So I think your info is slightly incorrect.

Send me a round trip plane ticket (Virgin airlines, please) and I'll bring you one for free.

BTW, can I crash at your place?

a shop in France who are expecting itrips in soon and will ship to UK (probably for not that much). They're charging 58.60 euros though.

It is actually illegal to sell and use the iTrip in the UK because of the FM licensing laws here.

It's not actually illegal, only technically speaking it is. It's just like with cordless phones or other things that use short-range radio frequencies. It is impossible to detect, so is a law impossible to enforce.

WE WILL GET THE ITRIP IN THE UK.

DECT digital cordless phones use a paricular frequency band that is allocated to them by the UK licensing authorities. In the UK the FM band can only be used by people who are licensed to broadcast on it. When you hook an iTrip up to an iPod you are broadcasting on the FM band with it without the relevant broadcasting license. Even if this is an extremely low powered broadcast it is still against the law.

I think you may well be right. I know two shops in Europe (one in UK and one in France) who are planning to stock itrips. But neither have a definate date, and their estimates keep on dragging on and on.
Other shops I have spoken to have confirmed that it is illegal. So maybe griffin won't be shipping any to Europe as it is illegal to sell. But to buy and own an itrip is a different matter because its something you could never get caught with.
Griffin do actually ship itrips to UK if you order from their website. But they charge $40 shipping, and as you may have read they are having problems sending itrips to everybody.

oh and I almost forgot: customs charges. Which always come to a ridicolous amount. Esspecially if it's being sent with usps, as that means parcelforce deal with it in the UK, and they charge an extra tenner on all custom fees!

Luckily for me my friend has just come over from America for holiday. And what did he bring??? Two iTrips!!! (I didnt think he would be able to find any, but he found two!!). So I have one for me and the other one is up for auction on ebay.co.uk.

They do ship to the uk.
I got my iTrip last week it cost me $30 to get it shipped but i dont think thats to much.
I only had the iTrip for one day in the UK then i left for Brazil for a 2 week holiday, It works well in the uk and well here in Brazil(also its a load better than Brazilian radio).
I dont think that anyone in the uk would do anything about you using an iTrip.
The cars i have used it in are at home my Peugeot 206gti and in Brazil a VW Golf and they are both as good as each other.
As for customs charges i was not charged at all.

I just want to say that the itrip works brilliantly in the UK. We have much less congested airwaves, and I think they also must be weaker or something cos the itrip can take out captial fm and radio 1!!!! It takes them over completley, it just seems unaffected by them.
I am very impressed, I'm gonna make people listen to MY music, taking over everyones radio.

Although it is quite effected by people walking infront of it. You need a clear path from the itrip to the radio receiver, but I'm sure I can have some fun with it.

Just sent off an enquiry to the French site (currently no mention of the iTrip on their site). Can someone give me thed etails of the place in the UK that is supposedly going to be selling the things as well?

Any other sites?

Otherwise I'm just going to have the swallow the fact shipping from the US costs more than the product itself!

p.s. looking for the latest vesion of the iTrip (i.e. dock).

Actually while we're on this subject, would anyone care to recomment a cigar-ligher power thingie, or are they all roughly the same?

Cheers

I doubt that it is illegal, but don't you have to pay a fee for use of the radio? I used to live in Switzerland, and my parents had to pay for tv, and radio.. per month i think

To purchase and to own an iTrip in the United Kingdom is perfectly legal. To use it is illegal. So the shops would have no problems selling them.

iTrips are so low power that it would be very very hard to detect.
