Can't access menu unless iPod is plugged in

I have been using my iPod in my Scion XB. It works fine when I have it plugged into the car or the electrical outlet or my Mac. (except that for the past couple of weeks, it doesn't remember bookmarks and starts over everytime I start the car) The big problem though is that, when it is unplugged, I cannot access the menu. I get no display at all. HELP!!!

Welcome. You will probably have to restore the iPod. The HD may be corrupt. But first try resetting the iPod. If it doesn't help then restore it.

I did both a reset and a restore with no success. Other ideas?
