Like so many people, I'm trying to copy the music on my iPod to my new notebook. I went through the tutorials, I downloaded the software, I've even tried viewing hidden files and folders to try and manually import the files, and every time I get an error message after about 200 files.

I'm getting a "wrong parameter" message, and/or a "windows delayed memory write error". When using software such as PodUtil of SharePod, the software will either announce a "wrong call" error and crash or create 0-byte files on my HD.

I've been at this since morning. I'm concerned there's something wrong with my iPod, but even more concerned there's something wrong with mhy new notebook. I'm going bonkers here. Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Thanks so much in advance!

You probably have a corrupt HD or songs on the iPod. I guess you didn't back up your library to an external HD or CD/DVD's? If you take the songs off a small amount at a time you will be able to narrow down while file or files are causing the problem. Tranfer 5 or 10 at a time. It's time comsuming but you will get most of your library back & learn to back it up from now on.
Also, make sure you shorten the songs tags as this can cause you to get an error message when transferring as well. The software has a character limit and some of the song titles may be to long + the artist name & album title may add up too to many letters.

My problem has spiraled into a horrible nightmare of evil things that have happened to my iPod... I don't know whether to continue trying to get help on this same thread, post a new one or post in one where someone has a similar problem.

I got the folder/exclamation point triangle icon on my iPod. I had just looked at the tips you just gave someone with the same problem, so I knew I should go to the Apple website right away. I tried resetting it, and it didn't work. It said that, after that, and before restoring it, I should plug it to the computer and see what happened. iTunes asked me to configure my "new" iPod, so I renamed it and thought it had been restored somehow. Now iTunes says I have 24Gb in use of it, when before I only had 7Gb!

I can feel my hair falling off my head... please help!!!!

This is what has happened since I last posted. I ended up restoring my iPod and losing every one of my 1477 tracks. I sent this to Ask iLounge, hoping to get some help.

---

I really really hope you can help me with this, for I've looked
everywhere, and although I've found several people with the same
problem, none of their threads have been replied to at the forums.

I have a 5G iPod (enabled for disk use) and I've been trying to use it
as an external HD to transfer files from my old desktop to my new
notebook (both on WinXP Pro), but after a few files (or in the middle
of a large file) I keep getting one of these error messages: "The
Parameter is incorrect" or "Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)".

I have tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it, and the same thing
happens. I had so many system crashes over it yesterday it all led to
me restoring my iPod and losing my library, and still, I cannot
transfer my files.

I would really really really appreciate your help!!

Here are links to posts by people having a similar problem, in case
that helps at all:
