I'm just about to get a new intel imac and need to convert my whole itunes library to a mac version of itunes, from windows.
does anyone know an easy way to do this?
I was thinking to copy whole library onto spare space on ipod then put on itunes in mac, but are they the right format etc?

or could i use a third party program to get the tunes direct off my ipod onto mac itunes?
again would they be the correct format?

Welcome. There is no need to do that since the mac will be able to read mp3's and aac's. If you have .wmv's then they can be converted to either mp3 or aac whichever you perfer.

If your iPod is formatted for windows then the Mac will be able to read it. Just set it to manually manage songs (edit>preferences>ipod>general tab) before doing so. This way your safe until you transfer the songs. This will stop auto sync and you won't have to worry about accidentally auto sync'ing with iTunes.

To transfer songs from the iPod you can use iPod Disk http://ipoddisk.ourbiti.com/index.php/about/ or

YamiPod - see post here #8 for link: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71349

Audio formats that are compatible:
Mac:
AAC (up to 320 kbit/s),
MP3 (up to 320 kbit/s),
MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR),
WAV,
AIFF,
Audible.

I own a 2g iPod and a 4g iPod, both formatted for Windows machines. Am I correct in understanding that the HDDs on the Windows formatted iPods use the FAT32 file system, and are therefore readable by OS X? That is, I can simply plug in either iPod and start managing my iPods in iTunes 7 for OS X?
