I'm looking for some earphones that are similar to the ones that the ipod came with but more comfortable and better souding. The thing is I dont want to spend more than $25 so even a slight improvement to the stock buds would be fine. Any suggestions?

For $25 you can get different, you won't get better.
The minimum cost upgrade is probably the JVC HA FX55. Usually $29
The minimum sensible upgrade is the Sennheiser CX300. Usually $50
If you have an iPod, why would you be so cheap that you wouldn't spend $50 to get good sound out of it?

Do they have to be earbuds?
The Koss PortaPro and SportaPro are cheap (around $20) and sound great for the money. Lifetime warranty too.

i cant believe you want something like the apple earbuds, they are the cheapest things and are a waste of an ipod, buy the shure e3c's now for $175 and be happy. Good Day Sir!

I'll recommend the Philips SHE9500 which is only 20 bucks. They are a lot better than the stock earphones.

I heard about these two that are good
Griffin Ear thumps for about $20 which are a little stronger in bass.
Sony EX71's for about $40 bucks, I hear good things about them.

I just bought the sony ex51 off of amazon for $19.99. I got those over the ex71 because they were cheaper and didnt really have a difference. Somewhere on these forums I read they were longer than the ex71s also.

Avoid the Sony EX51/71 at all costs - they are muddy, with horrible hissy, sibilant highs.
The Earthumps are pretty nasty, too.
You can do much better without breaking the bank

How about some V-Moda Remixes. If you look on ebay, right now there are some on their for <$25 (I had these on my wishlist and got them right before I recieved my free set from ilounge I won, so the pair I got as a gift are on ebay, but there are also other selling them for cheaper than me too.) These are very good headphones and definately beat the apple stockers

What to do after the stock buds die?
CELEBRATE and spend some money on good headphones/earbuds.
Spend as much as you can afford. It takes a while before the extra money cant be heard.

rejoyce! the ibuds have been vanquished!
the next step is buying a really nice pair of headphones then realizing that yer not getting the most out of em cuz yer music files aren't imported at a high enough bitrate
and then while u rerip your entired music collection at >192kbps, you stumble upon a website called headfi.org...starting your wallets diet and weight loss
