ok, so I'm not exactly sure what happened with my iPod so I'm not sure how much info I can give you all.... but I have had my iPod for about a year now.... maybe a little more.. I have a 40GB one too.... and just recently I was going out of town so before I left I picked up my iPod off my desk and and I turned it on to make sure it still had life... and when I hit the play button the apple symbol came up, and that happens when I haven't used it for awhile, so I din't think anything of it.... well then there was a picture of a file and a "!" inside a triangle..... so yeah.... I was like "hmmm" so I held menu and the middle button to reset it all... and nothing happened... it looked like it reset and I can hear it trying to work but I still get the file with the ! pic

so I can't get into my music at all.. so before I go out and spend about $300 on a brand new iPod.... is there something I can do that will fix my old one?
Cause I still like this one, and I'm not too interested in spending alot of money for something that I dont need to lol

If anyone has ANY idea what happened or how to fix it... plz let me know

This is a pretty common infamous problem. Many people have had this so don't feel bad. However, unless you still have warranty on that iPod.... you're going to have to open it up. The hard drive may be sectored here's the link of how to fix this problem.

Before you open your iPod see if you can connect it to the Updater and restore it. This will set it back to factory settings and erase the HD.

I agree totally with Honeybee. This same thing has happened to me and restore fixed it. Opening my Ipod is not an option for me.
