could any of you clue me in on the best headphones to buy for ipod 60gb? i think i will buy black ipod.
ive read these threads, visited some sites had a look at the reviews - even amazon and froogle (which is worthless for getting a hard price). ive now spent yet another hour looking here and to no avail.
ilounge is a GREAT site but it is difficult to navigate!
ok - heres the gig:
us30-60/5 dollars. im spending too much on the bloody pod but dont want to cheap out the system.
had creative stock earbuds (non canal) and thought the sound was pretty damn good.
worried about this 'micronics' or whatever
cable: too short/long cable will be very annoying to me.
inner ear canal phones would be ok, big pads on my head not ok.
i worry about a good fit
i listen to all sorts of music but mainly trancy/rock stuff. i like crisp high, not big on bass but when its there it should sound bassy
it seems i can look forever -
im considering the sony ex51 (not 71 as the cord length) and senn ex300.
finally: i had a pair of creative that took a decent beating and lasted only 5 months. the cord cracked, then the jack cracked. i used to wind the cord and the plastic i guess is brittle and that also contributed - but i was ####ed, only 5 months.
all this gear seems really expensive considering its life no? i take good care of my stuff.
thanks

The Sennheiser CX300s are good, but no more durable than the Creative EP630.
They sound MUCH better than the Sony EX51/71 which do NOT have crisp highs - they are muddy with a real sibilant hiss.
I'd strongly recommend going to $89 and going for the Panasonic HJE70, which sounds like a $200 headphone, and is metal, so won't crack.
An alternative would be the titanium Audio technica CK7

don't get the sony's because of their crummy cord

Then buy the Sennheiser CX300, or spend all that money on a 60GB iPod and get cr@p phones that sound dreadful.
Your choice....
(And I'd say that an iPod is worth an $89 pair of phones, personally)

Jackonicko: this is the problem with this portable technology. as mentioned cx no better than creative, sony cords are crap too. its a real huge amount of cash to basically rent this stuff.
for me - its a god send becasue i live out of a bag and to have huge library of music gave me so much happiness - but for all this gear i could have a hot asus laptop and some portable speakers.
thanks

You said you "didn't want to cheap out the system".
No-one's suggesting high end Shures or Etys.
You have the advice, to take or ignore.

Elecom 820's -- see here :

for a different style, with the same sound try these:

I have them and you can see the review I posted on this site for reference, very good sound and solid body. They are smaller than the sony clip-ons and much better looking, enjoy!

I dunno how earphones crap out on u folks. I have many pair of phones going back 10 years.
And I thought I WAS cheap.
Perhaps u should not get anything expensive, 'cuz yer doing something to it. Crapping out a pair of $300 dollers is gonna really hurt.

My v-modas have what I'd consider crisp highs, and they aren't very bassy either. (At least, compared to the EarThumps :) )
$50. You might be able to find better for the money, but they might be what you are looking for. They look nice too :)

They look VERY nice. I find the V-moda's very fun to listen to, they've replaced my Senns for daily use.

Try the Elecom EPH-820's, after a while they sound much better and balanced than the Sennheiser PX series - more clarity and not so heavy bass. The bass is there, its just not causing your head to thump all over the place, it is balanced. There is a reallly long burn in time though, like the PX series it takes about 150-200hours of music. When you first buy them the mids sound "tinny" and it takes that long to get em really good.
The style is fantastic and so is the build quality, be prepared for compliments on how it looks!
They did win Japan's Good Design Award for 2005.
Here is the audiocubes links to the two different styles:

I hae the black leather version and am very happy, especially for the price. I mean $42 total including shipping is a bargain.
