V-MODA have promised to send me a set to review.
I'll be looking forward to giving an honest, unbiased comparison with their most direct alternatives - the iPod stock buds, the class-leading Sony E888 and the Sennheiser 4000/5000.
I'll also compare them (insofar as it's possible to compare an earbud with an in-ear) with the JVC HA FX55, the Sennheiser CX300, the Panasonic HJE70, the Audio Technica ATH CK7, the Shure E2 and the Etymotic ER6.

Cool.. I'll be looking forward to it :)
I'm waiting for the pair I won to come, so I'll probably do a brief comparison between them and my current earbuds, the Griffin EarThumps.

Alright, here is my mini-comparison I promised:
First off, the clarity is excellent. The bass (and mids and highs for that matter) are all very crisp and not muddy at all, where with the EarThumps the bass is quite a bit more muddy. The bass isn't quite as loud, but for listening to, for example, bass-heavy metal, it's actually beneficial as it helps bring out the vocals a bit more.
Overall they sound good. I do, however, prefer the in-ear style because they stay in my ears better and provide better isolation (and because I have 9 siblings, anything that'll reduce the background noise is a good thing).
In quiet environments, I'd have no problems using the v-modas. I've just became really used to my in-ears, and so will probably still use them for noisy areas. However.. v-moda said in the chat that they have a in-ear model in the works, which I am very eager to try. So I'll have to wait and see what they sound like once they come out.
And even while I'm not using them, somebody will be :) My sister really loves them.
From a design point (compared to the stock earbuds),
They look really nice.
The foam covers stay on better than the ones with Apple buds.
The right and left markings on the earbuds are visible with the covers on! One thing that annoyed me with the stock buds, you couldn't see the R and L with the covers on.)
I love the gold-plated and straight plug. Its a snug fit, and doesn't easily get jerked out.

I haven't used the modawarp very much yet, but it is a cool idea and I can certainly think of a few times in the past where it would have been very helpful.

They're on their way.
I'm looking forward to seeing these, as I'm committed to helping people avoid some of the dreadful ear-wear that's out there (Phillips 590s, Futuresonics and Koss Plugs tie for the very worst, and the EX51/70/71 come close).
I want to help people make their money count, and to get the best bang for their buck - especially the youngsters who can't afford to splash out on SuperFis and the like. There's a real gap in the market at this price-point, and if the V-MODAs are as good as they claim, these could be a life-saver for many people.
Perhaps V-MODA could see that I'm well-motivated, genuinely independent, and that I write like a cross between Bill Shakespeare and PG Wodehouse....
Now let's see how these perform.

I received my buds a few days ago, and first, I want to say thanks to the guys at v-moda for them!
I do not claim to be an audiophile so please take my two cents for what its worth. :)
I was hoping that they would be a touch smaller so that they would fit in my ears better. They do fit better than the apple buds, but I sometimes have a hard time keeping the right one in my ear.
The pads do stay on a lot better than the apple ones. I've been carrying them around in my jeans pocket, and the pads have stayed firmly attached.
The sound has been great for me. The mids and highs are so clear! The bass is not too strong, but it is definitely there. I'm enjoying using buds because I can hear outside noise. For walking around in crowded places, I like to be able to hear if people come up behind me, traffic, etc.
The silver ones look great with my iPod. I've been using the modawrap cable manager thing, and I actually like it. I have to say I was definitely skeptical of its usefulness, but it certainly does the job when I have my buds in my pockets.
I love the cord length. It's just about perfect for listening while keeping my iPod in my front pockets. I've become irritated with my in-ears because the cords can be so long. (JVCs and Sonys) This is clearly a personal preference thing, and a "right tool for the job" thing. I also love the straight plug.
I'm very pleased to have these buds, and they will be the ones that I use most of the time.
Val, did you say that there will be a smaller sized buds by summer? I might try those out when they become available. Maybe even in the camo-orange. :D
Thanks again!
