View Full Version : Sony EX71s or EX81s?
I have the Koss Sparkplugs and I'm looking for something better... I've heard good things about both the Sony EX71s and EX81s... Which of the two do you guys prefer? I wear glasses and my ears aren't exactly huge so I'm wondering how the EX81s will fit...

The EX81s are slightly better than the 71s. Are you strictly limited to Sony headphones? Depending on your budget, there are a lot of better phones out there.

if you want decent in-earphones -- the sennheiser CX300's are pretty good. I do not reccomend the Shure e2c's as they are very uncomfortable if you wear them over 20min. If you don't mind the extra size, the PX200's sound good and can be found relatively cheap online.
These are a few fine choices in that price range:
Sony MDR-ED31SP N.U.D.E Earphones
JVC HP-FX77 Stereo Mini-Headphones
Audio-Technica ATH-CK5 Inner Ear Earphones
There are the Creative/JVC's that are basically the CX300's, only the quality varies a lot more because they don't check things quite as much.
Hope this helps!

Forget about the ex series! I will recommend the in-ear phones from audiotehnica. The ATH-Ck5 are good in this price range!

The EX71 and 81 use the same drivers and are equally dreadful, with muddy, hissy, sibilant sound.
You can do SO much better for the money, or close to it.
My main recommendations:
Sennheiser CX300, Panasonic HJE70, Audio Technica ATH CK7
Others:
Panasonic HJE50, JVC HA FX55

I would like to recommend the Creative Ep630s. They are very similar to the Sennheiser CX300 (so I've heard), but for a lot cheaper. I've had the Creative for about a week and a half, and they sound amazing. Clear, crisp sound without the muddy one note bass of the Sony's.
Is there any difference between the Sennheiser CX300s and Creative EP630s?

Don't forget the ATH-CK5! They are cheap but not bad! I got my ck5 for 20 bucks! For that price, it really make the ex series to shame! .
I bought the CX300 and they came in today. Just opened them and I'm listening to Kid A by Radiohead right now. The Koss Sparkplug's are crap compared to these. I can hear bass, highs and mids clearly. The bass isn't overpowering, and they're comfortable. Very happy.
