Your parents say that 10GB is enough, and the 20GB is too expensive (400$)? Just tell them this:
The 20GB comes with a case, remote, and a dock. Each of those are 40$, so it would be cheaper to buy the 20GB, which includes everthing I need and TWICE the storage of the 10GB. With that extra memory, I could get all our digital holiday photos and put them on relatives computers.
I used this last night and I think I talked my mom into it. A little persuasion always helps ;)
BTW, Make a fake iPod out of paper and carry it around looking sad for extra effect!!

Tell your parents to get you a refurb one. I got a 30GB Gen3 for $350 not too long ago--$50 less than a new 20GB and 10GB more space!

Yeah, I debated purchasing one off of eBay, but with the 30 dollar educational discount that I got, and the free engraving (my name), and the buy-direct-from-apple assurance, I did that. I am also sure that I will get all of the latest of everything with all the cables and such... that's one of the reasons I got the 20gb.
Oh, and the convincing your parents thing. I wish my parents would buy me an iPod!!! I think my dad might look into the CF-reader for his photography... :(. It's MY iPod!

Theres no point in me getting a 20GB one. 10 is enough plus I hate the apple case and remote.

even 10 gb is too big for me. my music collection is an amazing 742 MB. half the reason i bought the ipod is because it is so cool. an i am planning on getting more cds. but i probably run out of cds i wanna get. i have a very narrow taste in music.

Yeah, see, I bought a 20gb iPod because I only had 14gb of music and I thought I'd be fine. Well, now i have 28gb, still not that much, but I'm glad I didn't get the 10. I listen to everything.

I couldn't pull this off. I ended up getting the 10GB for christmas and had to pony up $75 (thank you educational discount) for the 20GB. I even returned to the 10GB to the local Apple Store after it was purchased at Target. That's great customer service.

No matter how much you think you'll be okay with, give it a few months and you'll suck it up.
When storage space is concerned, always remember that you will have this thing for YEARS, and it costs money to upgrade. Always best to get more than you think you'll need .. when you're seriously looking at the 10GB, buy the 20. When you're seriously looking at the 20GB, buy the 30. And so on.

I have the 10gb ipod and im happy with my purchase. sure i dont get the case, remote, and dock. but all of those things are worthless. The case is so big and horrible i just went with a iskin. The remote is preety good but im fine with just reaching into my pocket and changing the volume and song. And the dock is useless 2 i dont care if it makes it easier to connect to my computer and sync. Its not that hard to do mannually and the extra 10gb of music i dont need i only have like 4gigs of music and if i get more in the next 2 or three years and fill it up i will proplaly upgrade anyways cause apple will propaly have the 5gen ipod out by than and my old 3gen ipod wont be working that well. so i am happy with my purchase and i think i made the right decision. but if u have 20gb of music and ur a sucker for the accerious then go with the 20gb one.

i managed to con my mother into a 40gb one, just through the 20gb not being available and me wanting one for christmas----i'm not spoilt either, i have 29gb of music on my computer already, so 40gb was perfect for me.
