If any of you folks used the Shure in-ear foam plugs as you know they get grimey in about 5-7 days and most people have to dispose of them. They are not cheap either 52 sets can cost you a pretty penny and makes owning these head phones uneconomical.

The Solution

Order 5 of them and after they get dirty in 5 weeks take all 10 and soak them in bleach give em' a good squeeze (with gloves) you will see a bunch of nasty stuff come out. Then rince them off good and getting all the bleach residue off of them is key. Let them dry and you will have perfectly new ear plugs ready to be used for another 5 weeks.

Does doing this change the springiness of the plugs? Does it diminish either the sound quality or the isolation quality?

I have been using warm water with a bit of dishwashing liquid which seems to work well.

You can make new ones, see here

I would just use soap and hydrogen peroxide. Why put Clorox in your ears if you don't have to? :)

I think the peroxide idea may work just as well and I will try it. The bleach idea is potent but I feel that if you rinse you should get rid of most of the bleach residue. Yes after they dry the foam retains its ability to "spring" and not it does not effect the sound quality.
